today's lecture was very interesting, but the lecturer was even more interesting!
last week while grabbing a quick dinner at sgh kopitiam before class, i noticed this balding 50ish bespectacled tall guy sitting opposite me talking quite long on the phone. He was talking quite loud and in singlish chinese.
Lo and behold, he turned out to be the lecturer for my class! he introduced himself as a 'happy doctor' (which literally means 'open heart' in chinese cos he is a heart surgeon ). He is a super humerous guy and I was always awake during his lectures (super rare for me).
today he talked abt heart transplant. He asked us: what 'xin' (heart) he cannot cure? we scratched our head. Then he said: 'Hua-xin!(womaniser)' . Good one. Then he shared with us that he had a 40 year old patient who was transplanted with a 18year old heart, and the patient suddenly became very......erm....horny. The nurses were suddenly very scared to go his room cos every morning, he would have 'morning salutation'! The whole class, esp this bespectacled nerdy girl sitting in front of me, went laughing, but being sweet 16, I couldn't even catch the joke! My coursemate next to me had to explain to me. Wow, i am impressed, what a nice way to put it..morning salutation....i learn sth new again!
When the lecture was abt to end, the lecturer's hp suddenly rang and there was a 360deg switch, fm being humerous 'happy' doctor to a serious, 'dun fuss with me' senior consultant when he talked to the nurse. He had to rush back to hospital.
I really enjoyed his lectures. Even though he only taught me for 2 weeks, I would say he is the best lecturer I had for the past 5 years (4 years nus and 1 year ntu)! Someone with a such a high post and yet who showed absolutely no airs and also knew when to be serious and when to be a happy doctor.
